From Environmental Crisis to Regulatory Compliance with Advanced Water Piloting Program
Aqua Unique helped client achieve 99% Reduction of heavy metals and other contaminants, with full compliance for Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Heavy Metals and pH as per regulatory discharge limits.
Bane NOR/MossIA faced regulatory action when heavy metal contaminated discharge water from its SMS 2A's construction site threatened a nationally protected sea trout habitat. Aqua Unique rapidly intervened, diagnosing non-compliant systems and constructed a mobile pilot plant within three weeks, which achieved over 99% heavy metal reduction and restored stakeholder confidence. The proven results led to Aqua Unique being awarded the contract for a full-scale Best Available Technology (BAT) plant. Within months, the full-scale plant was designed, installed and commissioned, ensuring long-term compliance, uninterrupted operations and ecosystem protection, with on-site training provided for sustained performance.

1. Challenge Faced by Bane Nor/MossIA
Heavy metals contaminated discharge water from the construction site of the Bane NOR’s Sandbukta Moss Såstad (SMS 2A) project was entering Gunnarsbybakken stream, a Norwegian protected habitat for sea trout breeding and rearing. The project came under regulatory scrutiny and was fined for exceeding discharge limits risking a complete operational shutdown.
2. Rapid Turnaround by Aqua Unique
Aqua Unique conducted a thorough diagnosis of on-site multiple non-compliant water treatment systems and delivered a proven solution to restore clean water and protect a critical ecosystem. As part of its express service, the emergency pilot mobile treatment plant was designed and manufactured within three weeks, enabling Bane NOR/MossIA to meet discharge limits and prevent further ecological degradation.
3. Successful Performance Demonstration
Aqua Unique's on-site pilot demonstrated over 99% reduction of heavy metals. This provided undeniable, data-backed proof of the technology's effectiveness and restored confidence among stakeholders. The pilot proved that the Best Available Technology (BAT) was the clear path out of the crisis to meet discharge limits, preventing futher degradation and ensuring coninued operation.
4.Full-Scale Advanced Water Treatment Plant Contract Awarded
The pilot data served as a robust foundation for scaling up the treatment process. Recognizing the critical importance of a competent and specialized supplier, the contract for the full-scale Best Available Technology (BAT) plant was awarded to Aqua Unique.
5. Full-Scale Plant Commissioned & Operated On-Site
Aqua Unique then deployed a full-capacity water treatment plant to resolve the challenge and secure long-term compliance. The plant was designed, manufactured, delivered, installed and commissioned within an unprecedented timeline of just a few months, helping the client maintain operations, avoid fines and prevent further disruption to the protected ecosystem. Following successful commissioning, Aqua Unique’s engineers provided on-site training to the operators, ensuring smooth and sustained system performance.
